Iraq and Afghanistan

The Sherwood Rangers squadron contributed to the Royal Yeomanry’s deployment to Iraq in 2003, sharing in the battle honour awarded for that campaign: The only one awarded to a TA unit since the Second World War. In 2004 the Squadron was mobilised in full to support the deployment to Iraq of the Queen’s Royal Lancers, their affiliated regular regiment, where they saw action in a highly charged environment.

Sherwood Rangers have also served as individuals in Afghanistan as crewmen on a wide variety of armoured vehicles, as ground-holding troops on security, counter-intimidation and patrol work, and as specialists in a wide variety of roles including electronic surveillance, counter-narcotics agricultural advisor, and Forward Air Controller.
